The Church and It's Members: Church Discipline
Pastor Tyler Gillit, Series: The Characteristics of a Christ-Centered Life, The Church and It's Members: Church Discipline, Hebrews 12:7-11, Sunday Evening, 6/23/2019
Outline:
- Hebrews 12:7-11 - Principle: God disciplines His children and every single one of them needs it.
- Matthew 18:15-17 - Principle: The process for church discipline was made crystal clear by the Lord Jesus.
- 1 Corinthians 5:1-9 - Principle: The purposes of discipline are to: expose sin, warn, save, protect, and present a good witness for Christ.
- Galatians 6:1 - Prpinciple: The goal of discipline is restoration and the spirit of discipline is meekness.
- 1 Timothy 5:17-20 - Principle: No one is exempt from or above church discipline.
- Titus 2:9-11 - Principle: Because all sin is serious, all sin should be confronted. It is not the nature of the sin that merits discipline, but rather the nature of the unrepentance.
APPLICATION:
1. The Lord Jesus is serious about the purity of His Bride (Eph. 5)
2. Purity precedes power; blessing proceeds obedience (Heb. 1:9)
3. When confronted, we ought to respond in humility and repentance.
